Any Witch Way!

Alice_evenhuis_01'Alice' will be telling the story of a young, outcast witch on a quest to find her father, in a world where heroes exist, even though nothing they do makes any real difference. So in a way, with 'Alice' I'll be introducing the 'Disillusioned but Intimate Fantasy' genre. This was originally a co-production with Romano Molenaar, whom I served with in the same platoon back in 'Nam, but now he's doing 'Storm', I'll be picking up this story on my own in the near future. When the day comes it'll be the coolest thing I've ever done.

Wake Up

Snooze2_evenhuis_01_11 Snooze2_evenhuis_02_13 Snooze2_evenhuis_03_10Here's some brief previews for Snooze II. The first book will be in stores around February 2010 (only in France for now), with this one soon to follow. And yes, we're still looking for a publisher for anywhere outside of France, including The Netherlands, or we'll all have to practice our french.
Snooze2_evenhuis_04_8In the meantime I'm looking at some new stories to do after this - watch this space for more on that soon...

Bite me!

Bees_evenhuis_01_2 Just some 'early stage' critters I designed for a game project I sadly ended up not having enough time for...

It's outrageous how whoever decided that days should only last 24 hours has never been brought to justice. Just as the one that invented sleep and our need for any of it.

Still no pupils. Look for that elsewhere, pupil-lovers!

Picture That!

Jakari_detail An exclusive piece for 'Draw & Shoot 2', a beautiful full-colour, hardcover picture-book that brings you professionally shot photos of dutch comic creators and their creations.

For this project, Jakari Productions' Jan Magito and Karin Ceulemans have boldly travelled all over the country, turning over the rocks we live under to reveal our physical selves to the outside world.

Pre-order yours today! You'll find this piece next to the picture of my head.

Update: As per kindly requested by Jakari, this entry will henceforth remain under wraps until the book is released... So early birds, please try to forget what you saw ;-)

Now what?

Ts_evenhuis_01Just some new character designs for a little something that might just happen.

And Wallie isn't allowed to guess... ;-)
Ts_evenhuis_02_3 As always, I try to spend as little time as possible on these designs, to prevent thinking and analyzing and preserve that 'initial idea is usually the strongest' spontaneity. Analyzing just sucks the life out of character designs.

Cover Me! (part 3)

Snoozecov_evenhuis_00... aaand here's the final cover image.

Meanwhile, backstage, the editor will provide a logo and overall graphic design, which will hopefully rock all our socks off.

Anyway, feel free to let me know what you think. You can even call me 'dude' if you like.

All we have to do now is wait for me to finish the second part of Snooze. More about that one soon...

(All this leftover space and still nothing clever to say... )

Cover Me! (easter egg)

Snooze_elvis_evenhuis_01Now before we move on to the next (and final) step of this Making the Cover featurette, I'd like to explain a technique called compositing.

The technique is used frequently in Snooze, mainly to introduce live actors into the 'cartoon' world and allow them to interact with the 'toons' that inhabit it.

Here you'll find this sophisticated procedure explained in three easy steps. And yep, this is how Industrial Light & Magic does it, too!

Cover Me! (part 2)

Snoozecov_evenhuis_03Step 2: editor picks favourite, me sketches updated cover element digitally, me finds painting gear in last moving box me searches, and me finishes said cover element in watercolours / color pencils, pencils and inks.

Me could've said 'mixed media' but me like to sound like good hard worker.

Cover Me! (part 1)

Snoozecov_evenhuis_01_2 Snoozecov_evenhuis_02Some Snooze 1 cover proposals I prepared for the editor.

Can't think of anything silly to say.

Except her nose looks extraordinarily odd. But it's the thought that counts.

Buy Me!

Snoozeseq_evenhuis_01Almost forgot!

You can now also find some of my original art on ComicArtFans.com!
At the moment there's some 'raw' pages from Snooze and pieces that already found their respective owners, but in a short while there'll be new stuff for sale as well.

As always, you can also just contact me through the e-mail link on Log For Girls for custom commissioned scribbles!

Donations or gift certificates are also accepted.

The Latest!

Novak_evenhuis_01 Hi there!

It took me a while to get back online after moving to our new place, hence the silence here. In the meantime, all my gear's back in place and I'm back in action/business/and to the left.

The good news: The first Snooze book is finished (and has been for a few months now) and it's in full colour!

The bad news: Snooze will hit the stores (probably) around the new year. This to ensure that Snooze II will appear more shortly after the first one.

But no! Don't despair! In the meantime, I'll entertain you with 'the making-of Snooze II' featurettes, background info, peeks in the kitchen and secret recipes!

Watch this space...

Gonzalez Tribute

Vampirella_evenhuis_01 This Vampirella piece started out as a bit of inking practice, but I also wanted to take the opportunity to pay tribute to the guy who was one of the main reasons I wanted to become an artist: Jose Gonzalez.

Gonzalez quickly became what many consider the greatest Vampirella artist that ever lived and and it's simply insane how good his work still is - I'd go as far as to say he was one of the greatest artists to have ever worked in comics.

Only just before writing this entry did I find out that Mr Gonzalez died last month.

So here's my tribute.

Overlord II Mistresses!

Overlord2_mistresses_evenhuis Nearly missed this: a recently aired video on Gametrailers.com offers a first look at the new Overlord 2 Mistresses. Meet Fay, Kelda and Juno.

These designs were a blast to do, especially since they allowed me to go a little more stylized/cartoony than usual. Hopefully, more of my concept art for Overlord 2 will be released at some point (there's a lot)...
